Drift - Autobot/Swordmaster

Drift Drift - Character Sketch Drift - Alternate Mode Sketch

This month's spotlight Character is Transformers' Drift. Drift is one of the new Autobots in this summer's most anticpated blockbuster,Transformers: Age of Extinction. In the film, he is voiced by Japanese actor Ken Watanabe.

Bio

Drift

Once he was a fierce Decepticon warrior called Deadlock, who clashed with his superior officer, Turmoil. Fleeing Turmoil’s punishment, Deadlock discovered the Circle of Light—a group of peaceful Cybertronians who had been among the first to leave Cybertron in the wake of the Autobot/Decepticon war. The Circle took Deadlock in, and their commitment to peace made him realize that the Decepticon cause was no longer his own. Deadlock returned to his original name, Drift, and was given a Great Sword. Drift tracked down his former commander, Turmoil, and joined a squad of Autobots, who traveled to Earth and helped end the Autobot/Decepticon war. Later, Drift joined the crew of the starship Lost Light to search for the spiritual forbearers of the Circle, the so-called Knights of Cybertron.

Weapons/Abilities

Drift’s alt-mode is a high-speed, high-endurance land vehicle Drift’s Great Sword, bequeathed to him by the Circle of Light
Alternate Mode

Drift’s alt-mode is a high-speed, high-endurance land vehicle—optimal for maneuvering and especially for racing. It was recently revealed to be a 2013 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse.

Main Weapon

Drift is trained in the use of standard-issue Decepticon blasters, but is most at ease with the twin swords he carries. In addition, he never travels without his Great Sword, as bequeathed to him by the Circle of Light. This sword draws its power from the spark of the user—and Drift rarely uses the ancient weapon, instead taking comfort in the knowledge that it’s there if he needs it.

Weaknesses

Drift - Pre Dark Cybertron

Drift has never felt like he truly belonged. The Decepticons filled that void for a time, but the guilt of his actions as “Deadlock” have never left him. Even today, Drift believes the Autobots have never truly accepted him—perhaps with good reason.
